Progress..

Continuing work on this image, as we have not finished.... I personally am liking the style of it, though I'm not so sure Sidd does. I like that it is going in a different direction from the others. The PSD file is strange for this image, so it's hard to add things to it.

Collaboration Critique will be today in class. Hoping all goes well!

Human Connection UPDATE

Here is an updated version of our latest collage:
It is a bit on the dark side, but I'm really liking the stencil look of it. I think this has potential to be a very nice print once finished. Sidd has yet to see the stencil effect of the image, but I hope he likes it as much as I do!

Human Connection

Working on a neat idea with Sidd. We are cutting an image canvas in half, having our own interests on one particular side.

The above is the very beginning of the project. His side will have his interests and personal memories, while my side will have my interests and personal memories. It will likely show how humans really aren't much different after all, even though we tend to think we are.

Works In Progress

Over the past few days, Siddharth and I have been working on collage imagery based on memories of specific locations, including the ocean, living room/parlor, and neighborhood/street:

This image contains memories of ours, from our experiences of the ocean. We've added elements from our own experiences, some more literal than others. The eye in the background is a symbol of human connection, while also being a symbol for the size and scale of the ocean.

Whenever I go to the ocean, I'm always amazed at the scope of it all. You can't even see land across it, and it really puts things into perspective. It's a humbling experience to say the least, but I love it.

Here is another collage we've collaborated on. The location here is a living room, but with modern and retro elements. The eye is also being used here as a sort of connection between cultures, and as a motif for our images.

I have countless memories of playing video games, or watching cartoons, in my living room. Above the fireplace (not in the above image, but added on afterwards) are traditional Portuguese cuisine, which I am accustomed to seeing in my parents' house.

Above is an early version of our "Neighborhood/Street" collaboration. Experiences of ice cream trucks, school buses, passerby, and the like are represented here. This image still needs more work than the former two, but it's coming along nicely.

Death of the Physical World

I've been messaging my project partner on and off for several days now, and we've come up with some good ideas. I'm particularly interested in the rise of digital media. As digital media becomes more popular, people tend to push away from physical media.

Kindles aim to replace books. Netflix and Hulu have destroyed businesses like Blockbuster. Music and movies can be purchased online, through itunes, as fewer people buy CDs and DVDs.

Many people, much like myself, have a certain appreciation for physical media. We like to hold the actual media in our hands, but that feeling is disappearing ever so slightly, year by year. I'm very intrigued in exploring the idea of physical media's looming death.
